Board Member Profile – Bob Devine ’77: Being welcomed was a common theme

Name: Bob Devine

Graduation year: 1977

Bond number: 997

Hometown: Philadelphia

Current residence: Knoxville, Tenn.

Time spent on the board: The past 2-3 years

Do you remember the first time you visited Penn State?

While attending a branch campus (Ogontz/Abington), I would go to the main campus for football weekends. I stayed at the house at the invitation of a brother who was a cousin of my brother-in-law (Victor Wasilov ‘77).

Why did you pledge PA Theta?

Initially, I was a boarder with three other students who transferred from Ogontz our junior year. We were offered bids at the end of our first semester there.

Why did you love the experience?

The friendships and brotherhood developed have lasted to this day.

What is your favorite memory?

There is no one memory that stands out. Being welcomed without any regard to background or social status was a common theme. There were brothers with all kinds of different interests and activities.

What is your vision for the future?

I hope to see the chapter back at Penn State and eventually have a house to visit each year.
